NewsWomen in Business Break Out of the Recession in Cork City GaolWednesday 09 June 2010
Members of NEW, the Cork based Network of Enterprising Women, learned how not to waste a good recession at a unique event held at Cork City Gaol on May 26th 2010. The event, which was organized by Cork City and South Cork Enterprise Boards invited Cork Business Women to hear headline speaker Joan Baker talk about breaking out of recession. Joan is a New Zealand based entrepreneur and bestselling author ('Get Rich, Stay Rich' and 'Smart Women, Smart Money'). She encouraged businesswomen to get their business in order and be prepared for the upturn. The key things to do in recession are to make sure that your business model is right. Do you have a great product, is your service different to your competitors, and has it the potentail to generate profits. She advised that this is a good time to strip a business down and examine closely all the elements, such as costs and casflow, sales and marketing. This will prepare you to take full advantage of improved market conditions. This was an event with a difference according to Cork City Enterprise Board Assistant CEO, Adrienne Rodgers. ‘People left feeling motivated and positive, equipped with practical ideas on ways to drive their businesses forward and out of the recession.’ Comments from members: ....The talk given was of great benefit and very positive
