Objective: 

To help small business owners / managers learn how to effectively deal with their various legal obligations as an employer and how to implement 'best practice' human resource management. During the course participants have access to one-to-one training from an experienced HR Consultant.  The consultant will provide templates to each participant and work with them individually to produce an employee handbook, employee contracts and other essential HR documentation.

Content:

  • Designing employee specific contracts & statement of the main terms of employment for staff.
  • Producing a specific ‘Employee Handbook’ covering standards of conduct & professional behaviour, company policies regarding personnel records, probation, hours of work, time off, wage & salary administration, termination, lay-off, retirement, holidays, absence due to illness or sickness, maternity leave, parental leave, disciplinary procedures, grievance procedures, harassment & bullying, and best practice for I.T. controls.
  • Designing a ‘How To’ disciplinary manual for managers to help in the implementation of disciplinary procedures.
  • Varying employment terms, e.g reducing pay, working hourse, short time, reducing overtime premiums
  • Dealing with claims from disgrunled employees
  • How to legally terminate employment
