Regina Mundi College Scoop Top Awards at Enterprise Competition
Students from Regina Mundi College in Cork City scooped the top prizes at the Cork Schools Enterprise Programme’s annual Christmas Trade Fair, which took place in Blackpool Shopping Centre on 7th December. The winning team in the Cork City category is called Ace of Space. The Transition Year students from Regina Mundi College specialise in producing decorative remote control holders that hang over the side of the couch. They also produced ‘Bag Buddies’ – specially designed holders that Velcro to the inside of a schoolbag. The product holds keys, mobile phone etc and can be transferred to students’ locker at school. Other prizes awarded on the day included: • Best display stand: Wrapper Mania, North Presentation School • Best sales techniques: The Hood, St. Patrick’s Girls’ School • Best innovation: Retrospekt, St. Vincent’s School • Best team spirit: Ace of Space, Regina Mundi College 31 student enterprises took part in the Trade Fair which is designed to give students who are running their own student businesses a taste of what it’s really like to be entrepreneurs. At the event, students set up and decorated display stands in the aisle of the shopping centre and put their range of products on display to sell to Christmas shoppers. During the morning students interacted with shoppers, sold their products and were assessed by a panel of judges comprising of local business people. Over 15,000 students nationwide participate in the Programme (Student Enterprise Awards), an initiative of the County and City Enterprise Boards. The next leg of the competition will be the Regional Finals which take place in March, followed by high profile National Finals in Croke Park in April 2012. |
